2023 got off to a sizzling start at Dorking Men’s Shed. With the generous support of Dorking Butchery we held our first, first Saturday of the Month monthly barbecue. 31 members enjoyed the delicious bacon and sausage butties. Our voluntary donations totalled £108 for our nominated charity the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, making a total of £650 so far.
This year the members of Dorking Men’s Shed will be extending our reach into the local community with two gardening projects. Dorking Community Hospital has a neglected garden which we will assist with restoring and improving for the benefit of patients and visitors. We are also planning to collaborate with Surrey Downs Trust who support a lady and her son who are both disabled. They have rather lost control of their garden which is slowly becoming unuseable and we have also agreed to restore a garden bench for them which has sentimental value for the family.
The six decorative floral sleighs, located around Dorking town and named after Santa’s reindeers have been much complimented again this year. They have now been put back into storage in Santa’s grotto, ready for the next festive season. Another big thank-you to the shed members who maintain and locate the sleighs each year.
